Recover a missing note from iCloud (file conflicts and merges)

You spoke a great note. You cannot find it. Do not panic. This is almost always sync delay, a filename conflict, or a folder move.

60 second script

Hook: Your note seems gone and your heart sinks. Here is the quick recovery.
Check: Search today’s date in the Brain Dump folder. Open Files and check Recents. Conflicted copies often land there.
If still missing: In Obsidian, full text search a unique word from the note.
Conflict fix: If you see two copies, keep the newest and merge content. Delete the duplicate.
Prevention: Avoid renaming folders while notes are saving.
CTA: If you get stuck, email [email protected] with the time and title.

Fast checks

  1. Files app. Search the Brain Dump folder for today’s date.
  2. Files app. Open Recents. Look for file names with the words conflicted copy.
  3. Obsidian. Full text search a unique word you remember saying.

Where to tap, exactly

  1. Open the Files app. Tap iCloud Drive. Tap the Brain Dump folder. Use the search box at the top. Type today in the format your files use, for example 2025-10-13.
  2. Tap Recents in the bottom bar. Scroll a bit. Conflicted copies often show up here with a date near when you recorded.
  3. In Obsidian, tap Search and type a unique phrase from your note. Try two uncommon words.
